May 15, 2013 – The Glencrest development in the west end of St. John’s is officially moving forward after St. John’s City Council this week approved re-zoning of land for Phase One of the development. The portion of land that was successfully rezoned has been designated by the developers for industrial, commercial/retail and residential use.

“We are extremely pleased to achieve this important milestone in this substantial real estate development, after many months of hard work,” said Danny Williams, who owns and is developing the property. “We have spent a great deal of time and energy in the pre-development stages and receiving official sanction from the city means we can now proceed full steam ahead. This project is ideally located at the gateway to the city coming off the TransCanada Highway, and Phase One will offer more than 600,000 square feet of prime retail and commercial space in addition to residential space. It will be a tremendous boost to this region creating substantial jobs and economic benefits for years to come.”

The developer has been working diligently to ensure all relevant and appropriate information was provided to City Council, so they were able to make an informed and educated decision. Mr. Williams added that the development, now known as “Glencrest”, will soon see a re-birth with a new name to be announced in the near future.

“Our goal is to create an entirely new brand and identity for this project; one that capture’s our vision for this development,” added Mr. Williams. “We want to create a brand that will inspire people to live and work here. Our approach is innovative and something that has never been done before in the province. It is about strategic and careful planning, and creating a place that is special and unique for all those who live and work there. We want to leave behind a legacy of which we can all be proud.”

The new brand will be launched in the coming weeks, and in the meantime the general public can expect to see advertising and promotion within the next month for land sales in the industrial area immediately adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway, as well as commercial/retail areas near Ruth Avenue.
